10 Years of Kite that couldn't Fly High
Going to complete 10 Years Anniversary this year is collaboration of Anurag Basu, Hrithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan that you all saw in the year 2010 , Kites.
Featuring Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut (yes , the future CONTENDERS of Bollywood’s Most Ugiliest Fights). This romantic Action Thriller film was directed by Anurag Basu with a different kind of love story that was vehemently rejected by audience. The film has an extreme hype before the release as the producers really made this an international project by releasing it across maximum number of screens. The movie was termed as an Indian Hindi movie although substantial no of diglogues were in Spanish and English. A potential reason that repelled Indian Audience away from this movie.
I had the same feeling about the movie and its story. Initially I found it quite confusing and mixed up with lot of unnecessary drama but after second watch the movie started growing on me, with the help of its soulful music particularly Zindagi and Dil Kyu ye mera.
The narrative of Jay (hrithik) and Linda (barbara) , people might have found it illogical and may have wished that Jay should have opted our for Gina instead, but as they say there are no happy endings. What I love the most is the slowly going love between jay and linda, which is beautifully featured by Anurag Basu. The locations always help the audience imagination to understand the free and illogical love, in short Blind. The depiction in climax about jay reuniting with linda in the water of ocean emphaised the same.
I believe that’s why the movie was named Kites, free fly with a desire to break free from everything, earthly.
