2020 - The Year Of The Pandemic
The year of the Pandemic - as you are addressed by everyone, you shook us all from a state of oblivion in many ways.
No one saw it coming - the deadly virus. The whole world became a victim to the curse of the virus. Fear crept in the minds of people and lockdown brought the busy life to a standstill. Masks, social distancing, sanitizing - became the norm.
Yet all the nations united for a common cause - survival and ways to curtail the spread of the virus. We all realized the role played by our community helpers only during such adverse situations.
The unfortunate scenario made us learn some important lessons. We learnt to differentiate between our wants and needs. We as humans realized that we had taken everything for granted without being grateful to everything that we are provided with.
I personally used this period to nurture the artist in me by engaging in various creative activities and reviving my long lost hobbies.Though I had my own fears about the invisible virus, as a mother I had to make sure not to reflect any negative thoughts upon my children.
As a family we learnt an important word - gratitude. We understood how privileged we were when so many others were suffering, especially the migrant workers, people who had lost jobs, families who were separated owing to travel restrictions.
We learnt that even simple things can be enjoyed with great pleasure. We watched movies, read books, exercised and also played board games together. An extravagant vacation was not needed in order to spend quality time with family. We used the vacation fund for charity instead.
Now as the world is striving for normalcy let us nurture positive thoughts in our minds and pray for a better future. With the festive season of Christmas round the corner let us celebrate the ‘joy of giving and sharing’.
In short, 2020, you were a year in which we may not have got what we wished for however we learnt to appreciate what we are blessed with.
A grateful human
