Happy Birthday Sharmila Tagore
Movies and cricket are the most loved sources of entertainment in our country. From trying to mimic the acting skills of movie stars to trying to imitate their dressing style we do it all and I don't think we are guilty of it.
Though the acting skills of today's actresses are impeccable the grace, style and performance of the actresses back in those days was immaculate. Let's have a glimpse of one such actress who was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in December 2005.
She was born on 8th December 1944 to Rabindranath Tagore and Ira Tagore. Her father was a general ambassador in British India corporation. The Tagore's are closely related to Rabindranath Tagore.
She began her career as an actress in Satyajit Ray's 1959 Bengali film Apur Sansar. In 1959 Ray cast her in Devi, a film set in 1860, on Hindu orthodoxy and reforms. She considers it her favourite film.
She later appeared in Shakti Samanta's Kasmir ki kali in 1964. Samanta cast her in many films including An Evening In Paris. Samanta later teamed up her with Rajesh Khanna in films like Aaradhna (1969), Amar Prem(1972). Other directors paired them in Safar, Daag and Malik.
She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the film Aaradhna in 1970 and film Mausam in 1975. In 2004 she won National Film Award for the role of supporting actress for the film Abar Aranye.
She won Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. In 2013 she was awarded Padma Bhushan.
She was awarded Sanskriti Kalashree award in 2014.
She also served as a chairperson of the Central Board Of Film Certification.
She was married to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and is a mother of Soha, Saba and Saif Ali Khan.
She is none other than the beautiful and talented Sharmila Tagore.
The team of The Pink Comrade wishes her a very happy birthday.
