A Celebrity’s Take on Self Love
Each one of us is born with a unique body and potential. But as we grow we become so engrossed in pleasing the world around us that we forget the importance of self love.
As the German Poet Charles Bukowski had rightly said;
“If you have the ability to love, love yourself first.”
Here is a fictional interview that ascertains the importance of self love.
Kamna is a renowned celebrity. She had been through a lot of highs and lows in her fifteen year career as an actress. The decisions and choices made by her had received a lot of criticism. Though she liked to keep her private life away from the eyes of the paparazzi, she never succeeded. She is being interviewed by a reporter on the occasion of women’s day.
Interviewer : Ma’am, You have carved a niche for yourself in the film industry. Do you think it will last forever considering the recent transformation of your roles?
Kamna : I am glad that I was able to do that but as I grow and become wiser ,I choose to take up strong roles that seem to strike a chord with me. People who accept me for who I am may do so. Those who don’t, I don’t blame them for that.
Interviewer : Ma’am, your pregnancy has led to a lot of weight gain. We hear time and again that you have been facing a great challenge in shedding those pounds. Is it true?
Kamna: Yes. I have gained a lot of weight. But I enjoyed my pregnancy. I don’t want to go on a crash diet and come back to a size zero overnight. I have been exercising regularly but I am under no pressure. I just listen to my body and act accordingly regarding the intensity and duration of my workouts. It is important I love myself just the way I am. I have been trolled and body shamed repeatedly. But remember fat-shaming is something that not just celebrities go through, but it also targets the population at large.
Interviewer: Recently you posted a photo of yours in social media sporting a swimsuit. Unfortunately all your stretch marks are evident in the picture. Did you forget to Photoshop the picture before posting? Because, it was under a lot of scrutiny.
Kamna : Give me a break! Nowadays normal seems to be defined in a whole new way. I wanted to look natural. What’s wrong in showing off my stretch marks? They are the beautiful marks of pregnancy. Beauty lies in the flaws too.
Interviewer: There have been rumors that sometime during your career you went into mental breakdown. Is it true? Because, no one expected it from a person like you.
Kamna(laughing): Just because I am a celebrity it doesn’t mean I am not a human. I sailed through an emotional rollercoaster. People who once seemed close to me, started to maintain their distance as I went through a dark spell. This led me to slip into depression temporarily. But fortunately,I was ready to acknowledge my failing mental health and sought help. After several rounds of counseling, I realized that as long as I have the courage to embrace my flaws, I don’t need a helping hand to pull me out. I am my best helper. I can tread even the darkest paths by believe in the power of healing and hope.
Interviewer: Wow! Ma’am, you speak with great positivity. Is there anything that you would like to tell the women of today?
Kamna: This is a message for all the women watching my interview – Don’t let the world define your roles, responsibilities or your looks. Your body is not a battleground. If you are constantly involved in a pursuit to please the world around it will lead to exhaustion eventually . Love what you do, do what you love. Never make decisions out of fear. Don’t forget to chase your dreams. Give importance to your priorities. And finally love yourself always.
Interviewer: Thank you very much ma’am. This session was indeed a great eye opener. Happy women’s day!
