#Aprilblog2 Blessings in disguise
It was the happiest day for Aarya. She woke up early in the morning and rushed to the kitchen to prepare tea for her sweet mother.
Ahana never expected her 10-year-old daughter to prepare her morning tea.Her first reaction was "Oh my baby, thank you so much my darling!"
But that changed in a second, appreciation changed into fear. She panicked.
" Why did you use the stove? "
"You are not allowed to touch the gas stove."
"What if you burn your hand."
Aarya smiled and hugged her mom.
"You can scold me later maa, first you enjoy your tea and tell me how it tastes." She chuckled.
Overwhelmed Ahana took the first sip of her tea and tears rolled down her eyes.
The tea tasted heavenly satisfying and hearty.
After all, it was made by her little baby.
Her first cup of tea.
"This is perfectly made, it's soooo tasty Aarya beta, but you should not use a gas stove yet."
"You are too young for this."
"Okay, mamma, I will not. But you don't have to worry about it maa, I'm a pro now."
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
IS THIS NOT THE FIRST TIME SHE IS MAKING TEA?
Questions bombarded her mind.
Her chain of thought was broken by Aarya.
"Maa, I'm so happy that you have a fever."
Aarya said innocently.
"Why are you happy Aarya? This is not right beta.
We should not feel happy when someone is unwell." Ahana was a bit surprised to hear Aarya.
" Because you have fever you'll stay with me the whole day Maaaaaa. You don't have to go to the office, no house chores."
"Only you and me."
"For the next three days, you'll spend all your time with me Maa. I am happpyyyyy." Explained Aarya.
Ahana felt happy and uneasy at the same time.
It was like a turmoil of emotions.
Happy yet guilty.
Felt loving yet felt irresponsible.
Being a working woman she had her limitations.
She didn't get enough time to spend with Aarya.
Although she had a full-time caretaker for Aarya but as a mother, she was not there for her all the time.
But she has to work. A single mother doesn't always have choices. Right?
She decided to make these three days memorable for Aarya and herself.
But what should she do? She is not keeping well.
She can't take her out.
Thinking all this in her bed, she dozed off.
She woke up to loud noise.
"What happened Aarya?"
She ran out of the bedroom.
To her greatest surprise, Aarya was standing near the washbasin, scared.
Holding a cleaning sponge in her hand. Broken glass pieces were scattered on the floor.
"Why are you doing dishes Aarya?"
"Where is Saroj?"
Aarya stood there quiet. She didn't utter a word but her teary eyes said it all.
Ahana got all her answers now.
How her daughter was
How she made a,
PERFECT CUP OF TEA.
Her caretaker was making Aarya do all her work.
She was abusing her.
Ahana was furious.
As Saroj came back from the vegetable market she confronted her. After denying and arguing for some time she accepted all her wrongdoings. And lost her job.
Ahana thanked God for her fever.
Being a software engineer she decided to work from home as much as possible and take care of her daughter by herself.
Aarya was happy because when her mother fell sick she came to know about her suffering and her life changed for the better.
A blessing in disguise.
Not every time we get lucky to know about the problems of our children.
Keep a cautious eye on their behaviour.
A little change in the behaviour raises a red flag.
We should keep a close eye on domestic helpers and child care help also.
We can do it with the help of technology.
CHILD ABUSE IS AN OFFENCE.
