Do you Remember this Girl ?
Well the new Generation may think that this the best time for independent music but we all know they are wrong. The golden time of independent was its initial time when it gave an amazing experience to the ears of Indian Audience in the form of New Music with New artist and songs which are meant for THE COOL AUDIENCE.
Indie-pop found its way to Indian audience amid the tornado of Kumar Shanu, Udit Narayan and many other mainstream singers. Melody of 90’s was so melodious for Indian Audience, but indie pop proved its mantle and gave us some extraordinary singers. Later these singers too collaborated with mainstream music and vice versa.
How many of you remember that pain of pressing down those buttons in your 2 in 1, many times to rewind a song, then press it back to play it,rewind and play, rewind and play, OMG, but agree or not, we all were ready to bear that pain to listen our favorite indie pop singers and their songs.
I have many favorites but today I am gonna talk about Anamika Grover, female pop artist, yes girls, whose voice makes you recall कही करता होगा वो मेरा इंतजार, yes karta not karti. In the Year 1996, her first album Catwalk was released, which instantly took her to the top ‘Indipop’ industry. She got nomination for Channel V awards category for Best album, Best female pop singer and Best video that year. She made contributions to the mainstream music with movie Auzaar with the song ‘Dil de de na’ alongwith singer, Jojo this 1998 song touched every young chord like never before.
Anamika made a bang bang with her second album too, Intezar, with some attractive songs like Kaaala Sha Kaala, Nindra, Aaja Aaja and Kahi karta hoga intezaar. Out of all her songs my favorite is Nindra. Check out this song and you will be compelled to listen it ten times, least. Anamika voice came as a fresh breeze for Indian listeners.
Her energy which was quite reflecting in her voice mader her songs, different in every sense. Her energy made her live shows a BIG HIT. 2004 saw her new album “Hail Dil Deewana”, containing some remixed tracks of yesteryears songs like disco deewane and bahon main chale aao. Anamika is a versatile singer, she is at ease with pop, classical , qawalli, devotional, filmy in short everything. She is still active in the music circle with live shows and performances. I wish, we could listen more from her.
Tell us about your favorite indie pop stars and their songs, if you can sing for us , I would sing along with you, ciao.
