Go Girl.. More power to you, ALWAYS!

Go Girl.. More power to you, ALWAYS!

Yesterday during my sporadic leisure time, I managed to accidentally view a very old ad campaign-#LikeAGirl by Always (the feminine hygiene brand owned by Procter & Gamble). The #LikeAGirl campaign is aimed at empowering females and attacking what Always calls “the self-esteem crisis” among young girls.

It's futile to mention that I was bowled over by the concept the ad campaign, so much, that it triggered my inner self to pen down my thoughts! It tries to break the Gender stereotypes and the clichés pertaining to the genders that we have been carrying on without even having a say in it.

We tell people to “man up” or to “take it like a man” when we’re urging them to handle something with strength and power.

We tell people they’re doing something “like a girl” when we’re explaining how they’re doing something awkwardly or weakly.

In the caption beneath the video, Always explains why this campaign means so much:

“Using #LikeAGirl as an insult is a hard knock against any adolescent girl. And since the rest of puberty’s really no picnic either, it’s easy to see what a huge impact it can have on a girl’s self-confidence. We’re kicking off an epic battle to make sure that girls everywhere keep their confidence throughout puberty and beyond, and making a start by showing them that doing it #LikeAGirl is an awesome thing.”

We may still have to tread a long path to be able to see the visible change in the patriarchal mindset of people, but we've certainly come pretty far from where we once were and that calls for celebration.

Everything I do in my life I do “like a girl” because I am a girl. I am a strong, confident and an outspoken girl who also parents my beautiful daughter like a girl. A daughter who I am thrilled will grow up in a time when videos like this go viral.

Achieving gender equality requires the engagement of both men and women as it is everyone’s responsibility.

Let us all dream of such a day when “run like a girl” would mean “WIN THE RACE”. Go girl.. you've  got the power!
