Home It Was
Priya looked around her, overwhelmed with millions of emotions. It was that time of the year again, Christmas! Her 3 BHK apartment was shining in lights. The only good thing that happened to her in this wretched 2020 was this, a home of her own!Solely hers!!
She picked up her steaming mug of chocolate and tried to concentrate on the battered copy of " Becoming " by Michelle Obama, one of the icons she looked upto for inspiration. Her dream came true surely but at the cost of many things.
" Area Manager at the age of 29. Earning six figures a month! It would be difficult to find an alliance for your girl." An over-enthusiastic relative had advised her dumbfounded parents.
This insult hadn't gone down well with Priya, definitely.
" For your kind information aunt, I have no intention of marrying.Yes! You heard me right." Priya continued, ignoring their shocked looks.
"We all have only one life.We never get a second chance at it.So we definitely have the right to live it according to our wish.Don't you think? I wish to have my own place and travel the world with my parents, try every single thing which I haven't before and want to live a contented life.I just don't want to survive, merely." Her logic shushed them all.
This apartment happened shortly after that. This would be the silent spectator of all her deeds, successes, vulnerability and would take pride silently in her promotions alongside her proud parents. Home it was, indeed!Priya recollected her mother's views...
" A girl must have her own place. Its very necessary.Neither parents' house nor in-laws...but her own home. Its her identity."
The doorbell rang.It was her parents! Priya grinned broadly and welcomed them in.A happy family union waited before them.
