Jo Maa ne bola tha

Jo Maa ne bola tha

It was a night before my wedding...Amidst all preparations, all lights, the hustle bustle..I fondly lied on my mom's lap...I was nervous, anxious, excited all at the same time..Didn't know what life would be after marriage?...How I will react to situations, how my in-laws will?...So many questions and collywobbles..

My mom, my best friend ever, took a second to realize my apprehensiveness, the turmoil inside me...Her hand was on my head and tears in her eyes. She said,"Betiyaan kabhi paraya dhan nahi hoti...Even if you won't be there with us tomorrow you will always be in our hearts..and we in your actions, your conduct..We have worked all our life to make you a strong, independent woman...

You have a flourishing career, now work for a flourishing life..Give respect to your elders but never compromise on your self respect..Give love to your family members but don't forget to love yourself too..

Compromise where ever you feel you should but don't compromise your dignity...Don't expect much from others and don't let others expect too much from you either..That family should be your priority always but don't forget the family for whom you are a  priority...Strike a balance...It will take time..you will have problems..certain issues..some disapprovals, dissents, challenges..but take everything in your stride...

You have to deal with all those things all your life..These small hurdles will make you more strong more ardent ..Be confident, Be assertive and Be positive always.Always remember that a strong woman knows that she has strength enough for the journey but a woman of strength knows it is the journey where she will become strong..Still at any point you feel you are giving too much and are not at the recieving end...

then take a deep breath, we will sit like this again and sort it out...There's always a solution to a problem" Then there was silence and tears started rolling down from our eyes...Those words are still fresh in my mind..even after so many years...I am there standing strong, assertive as mom told me.That is the kind of confidence and trust we should give to our daughters.
