2020 - THE YEAR OF INTROSPECTION
As we gear up to bid adieu to you, it’s time to pause, reflect and take stock of things before we move on and welcome 2021. You will go down in the history of annals as a year most unprecedented – there never was and there never will be another year like you!
Your third instalment, March brought the entire world to a halt. From the world’s most powerful nation to the developing ones –everyone was down on their knees, thanks to Covid-19. We were forced to stay indoors with ample time in our hands. It was indeed time for introspection and to reset priorities.
Unlike a lot of people who despise you and would like to wipe you off their lives as if you didn’t happen at all, I have mixed feelings for you. For you taught me the biggest lesson – that we all are interconnected. As containment zones were defined and redefined, I realized that my own well-being depended on the welfare of others. So, with a firm belief in the ripple effect of prayers, I prayed not only for myself but also for my neighbours. I prayed for all the corona warriors – healthcare workers, sanitation workers, domestic help and even the police force (whom I had always dismissed as a corrupt lot)!
As people around the world lost their jobs, I realized just how fortunate and blessed I was. I thanked god every day. I learned minimalistic living.
Again, true to your nature, you didn’t differentiate between rich and poor. Worldwide a lot of celebrities lost lives, just like other lesser mortals. The passing away of talented Irrfan Khan was like a personal loss to me. I think it was too early for him to go. But I guess you know better.
As you pass on the baton to 2021, can you tell it to bring in some good news? My wish list comprises of just one thing – Covid-19 to be eradicated from planet earth.
