The Ardent Book Lover- Pink Editorial Desk

When I have little money, I buy books and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes. - Erasmus.

Books are not just the powerhouse of knowledge but also a solace to the weary soul. After a long and exhausting day, reading a book in a quiet corner is like resting in shade after walking under the scorching sun. Book reading may be a hobby for a few but is a passion for some.

On reading the above quote by Erasmus one might think that it is crazy to spend one's maximum percentage of earnings on books but some people are fervent book lovers, who wouldn't hesitate to spend the last dime in their possession to buy a book they love.

Pradeep an auto driver from Kerala is proof for the above statement. Pradeep loves to read the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Tolstoy, Victor Hugo and Franz Kafka. He said that The Alchemist written by Paulo Coehlo is his favourite work. His love for the book has coerced him to paint the name of Paulo Coehlo and his book The Alchemist on the backside of his autorickshaw.

5th September 2021, Sunday was a day of ecstasy for Mr Pradeep when his son had informed him that Paulo Coehlo had tweeted a photo of his autorickshaw which has the writer\'s name written on its back. Pradeep couldn\"t believe it until he confirmed it was indeed the verified account of the Brazilian novelist.

"Kerala, India(thank you very much for the photo)," read the tweet.

Pradeep who is from Cherai said he has always dreamt of travelling to Brazil to meet his favourite author and to Europe too.

"The increasing price of the books is making it difficult for him to keep up with his reading habits," he said.

"He would spend 400 out of the 500 rupees he earns for buying books," his son told the reporters.

With the minimum resources at his disposal, Pradeep has amassed the wealth called knowledge over years. He's an inspiration for many of us.

Kudos to Pradeep for his zeal and zest towards books.

We wish him all the best and hope he gets to read many books in the days to come.

Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are. Mason Cooley.
