Tinii

This story is based on a real life incident.

Tinii is our neighbor since since ( because I am seeing her this way since I was born). She communicates through sign language.Basically Tinii is deaf and dumb since her birth ( as much as her parents have told us ).

It was last week when I visited my maternal place and learnt about Tinii's father's demise.I instantly went to their place to offer my condolences to the family.

I obviously felt bad for the family's loss but, what troubled me more, was the 40 year old Tinii's closeness to her father that had left her shattered now.

In the evening when I again went to see the family and give them some company, this time the writer in me was queer to get to know about Tinii's story. And what I perceived, was something that needed to be put in front of the society.

Tinii aka Meghana had been a deaf-mute by birth. But, that didn't stop her family especially her father, from celebrating her birth. She's the eldest and most loved, of the two children, of the house.

During her growing days, her father gave her the best of education & etiquette. He never made her compromise over anything and, not did he let anyone belittle her.

Her mother also added that, Tinii's opinion is given priority in the family decisions ( they consider her the wisest decision maker if the family).

In her 20's they even tried finding a suitable match for her but, they found none as her father and grandfather weren't prime to comprehend over any big decision in a haste.Alas! They didn't find anybody wise & worthy for Tinni but, that has never made Tinni feel deficient.

She juttlingly handles their farms and business , overlooking her limitations. Her father never did any prejudice towards his impaired daughter. He stood by her all the time, made her strong enough to stand for self and not, let anybody break her dignity.

Today after her father's death , the family looks up to her as the head of the family. They respect all her decisions without grumbling ,not because she's a handicap but, because of her wisdom and courage in taking right decisions for each member of the family.

I felt so proud of Tinii and, her family but, my respect brimmed up for her late father, who gave this girls wings if belief that made her impaired flight easy and worth.

Today when I learn about female infanticide, girl child abuse and, about the shame and struggle a girl has to go through, this story is a positive face that mirrors the story if father's who pour in all their love and faith in their child regardless of their gender.

Kudos to Tinii and her father Hope we come across many such father's in our society.
