World Suicide Prevention Day 2020

World Suicide Prevention Day 2020

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2020 i.e. observed every year on 10th September to raise the awareness about mental health. World Suicide Prevention Day is hosted by The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).

This year the whole world is facing a never-before kind situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic that makes this day even more important. It is not just to observe but to actually spread the word about taking care of mental health. Yes, from my point of view a poor mental health is the biggest reason of losing one’s own life.

Current situation has affected the livelihood of people very badly. It has become a challenge to survive for many people. Not only the poor or the middle but even the high class is not spared of the financial setbacks. Many people are out of their work for a long time, some are working from partially/fully and some are with no work-no pay.

Then, not only the financial aspect but general aspects of life are also affected here. No doubt, lockdown has given us an opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones but a sense of insecurity has taken birth in the minds of the people, who are away from their families/native.

A sense of loneliness, financial crunch, job/work loss, EMIs to pay, loans to repay, managing the household all alone, domestic violence, unable to meet parents or family, likewise so many related reasons are giving birth to negative thoughts.

Even the healthy people seems frustrated with the environment around, see the locked shops, markets converted in to silence zones, curfew like situation all around it makes us feel crazy. People with family can share but the ones who are living alone they start falling in to depression. It becomes a reason of anxiety and mental illness.

We have no organized data to check the people who lost their lives due to mental illness or depression but the cases that we hear or watch on TV are just scary. So many actors (TV or film stars) committed suicides during this period.

Manmeet Grewal hanged himself to a ceiling fan due financial stress and  Preksha Mehta did the same and lost her life due to depression. And, can we really forget our loving Sushant Singh Rajput. As per reports he had no financial troubles then what made him to take this drastic step (case is under jurisdiction).

In all these and other suicide cases the most important is the struggle that we keep having with our selves. We start believing that the problems are bigger than our life whereas the truth is just opposite. We must believe that problem will keep coming and going but life anyhow should not be affected.

Let us do something for ourselves:

·         Do not fight within yourself.

·         Meditate,

·         Share your troubles with loved ones.

·         Form a positive opinion about yourself.

·         Do what interests you the most.

·         Work on sharpening your skills and talent.

·         Top at all-BE POSITIVE.

Finally, let us all take care of ourselves, our family, neighbors, friends, and all our known people. IF you see someone little low, try to bring a smile on his/her face and that is how we can make the people having faith in this beautiful life.
